A Dog’s Lifeby Ann M. Martin
Squirrel was born in a warm shed. Most of her siblings didn’t survive. When she was only a few months old her mother left her and her brother, Bone, on their own. This may seem harsh, unless you know that Squirrel is a dog. When Squirrel follows Bone away from their safe shed she embarks on a journey that is at times heartbreaking, nearly always hungry, sometimes dangerous, but always full of life. The dogs do not talk to each other in human voices, but communicate in a language that is no less understandable. Squirrel is a most loveable dog, and her story is not unlike that of many young people today, trying to find their place in the world.
