Elephant Run
by Roland Smith
When bombs begin to fall on London, Nick is sent to live with his father in Burma. The Jackson family has been using elephants to harvest timber on their plantation for three generations, and Nick is anxious to get back and learn the business. Unfortunately, Burma is no safer than London as the Japanese prepare to invade. Despite the terrifying conditions in which Nick finds himself, he is able to learn a lot about family, loyalty, and love. Readers will learn a lot about elephants, Burma, and the Japanese quest to rule all of Asia. This is an enjoyable and informative read. My only complaint is that there is no afterword or historical information at the end of the book.
