The Last Apprentice: Revenge of the Witch
by Joseph Delaney
Thomas Ward is a seventh son of a seventh son, a condition which makes him eligible to be the apprentice of the spook who keeps the countryside free of ghosts and boggarts and witches. It’s a gift, but also a curse, for the life of a spook is solitary and feared by most people. But Tom is not just a seventh son of a seventh son, he is also his Mam’s son, and his Mam has powers of her own, though Tom would never dream to ask her about them. So he does his best, but he makes a serious mistake when he promises a pretty girl, Alice, to help her out when she needs it. What she asks of him seems simple enough - to deliver cakes to her great grandmother, a witch imprisoned on the spook’s property. But this seemingly innocent act unleashes a terrible evil and Tom is on his own to stop it.
