Crossing the Wireby Will HobbsVictor Flores loves life in Mexico and has no desire to run off to “El Norte” to make money as so many of the men of his village have done. But with his father dead, his best friend gone across the border, and practically no chance of selling enough corn to support his family, he has no choice but to make the dangerous journey. He makes and loses friends, sees misery and suffering and injustice, but also kindness, and comes to understand much about the world and himself. Sprinkled with Spanish words and phrases and history of Mexico and the border, this book bogs down at times but is still a worthwhile read.
